My name is Marie Brown I’m 36 years of age married with three children, I set up my own business in July 2005 working as an agency for people with disabilities. I employ staff as the service develops. I have just started to do my NVQ level 4/ Registered managers award which I’m hoping to complete in 2007, I have just completed working towards commission of standards.
I have set up a drop-in twice a week on Monday’s and Saturdays from 10 till 3. This involves mixed crafts, chatting, games, planning activities, cooking and form filling.
I also offer 1-1’s to assist in each persons personal goals, this maybe college, gym, swimming, shopping, personal care and cinema.
I also offer holiday respite for each individual this can be as group work are on 1-1’s, this enables their carers to have a longer break.
This is a much valuable service for service users and their carers because it is a flexible service and it is what people are asking for, the service offers a regular break and this will prevent family breakdown because there is a more flexible approach to this service and this enables carers to get a bit of their lives back by doing things that they want to do. This also reflects onto our service users because they are more happy to be giving their carers a much needed break, which is proving successful from both service users and their carers. |
